Index fails to join AEO

The Index Group has had its application to join the Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) rejected because it did not meet the two-year trading rule. The consortium of contractors was launched in July and hoped to secure AEO membership because all 11 members had been trading for more than two years individually. “It is disappointing. I’m not fully convinced by the AEO’s argument,” said Index chairman Keith Richards. “Other companies have done what we have done and they are members. The AEO has already set a precedence.” AEO director general Trevor Foley said: “There were two reasons for Index not becoming members. First, it doesn’t meet the requirements for trading for two years. Second, we don’t have the situation where the individual companies are members in their own right.” Richards added: “We are for the AEO and it has an awful lot to offer the industry. We do respect its rules and regulations.” Index won its first contract last month. It will provide services for the Northern Food Drink & Wine Show, which takes place at Manchester’s G-Mex from 12-14 April. “We are delighted. We didn’t expect to get our first contract for about 18 months,” said Richards. Index membership has increased to 11 from its original nine. The two new recruits are A1 Window, Office and Exhibition Cleaners and Safety Management Solutions.
