Despite setbacks for the venue after a fire in the roof last month, owners of The Hydro, which is part of the Scottish Events and Conference Centre site, still plan to open as scheduled in September.

This year’s MOBOs will be the third in Scotland, following its debut in 2011, and the first televised event from the venue. Among some of the confirmed names are Rudimental and Iggy Azalea.

Kanya King, founder of the MOBO Awards, said: "MOBO turning 18 is a huge achievement and a special time for us.

"Starting an awards ceremony which has changed the industry, helped represent a diverse range of music that’s at the heartbeat of youth culture, and given a platform to emerging talent which has then gone on to achieve global and commercial success, is something to be proud of.

"We are ecstatic to be coming back to Glasgow for the third time and are working flat out on making our 18th anniversary show a truly unforgettable one."

The MOBO Awards last came to Scotland in 2011 at which time national event agency EventScotland, and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, secured a three-year deal with organisers.

This means that MOBO will return to host the awards in Glasgow for its 20th anniversary.

Paul Bush, chief operating officer for EventScotland, said: "Scotland is the perfect stage for events and the awards boost our international reputation through its ever increasing profile and broadcast reach, and with this year’s event taking place in The SSE Hydro it promises to be bigger and better than ever."
