Havana Club, Ketel One and Meantime at Taste of London

Activations including cocktail making classes from Havana Club and Ketel One Vodka, as well as a virtual reality experience by Meantime, were unveiled at Regent's Park's Taste of London last night (17 June).

Havana Club’s Casa Havana mojito bar, which was launched at London’s Old Spitafields Market in May and has since travelled to Greenwich Market, is popping up at the five-day festival.

The bar is complete with cantineros who teach attendees how to make a mojito using the mix, muddle, mix technique, and they can take a Havana Club tin complete with the recipe away with them as a momento of the experience.

Stuart Knight, senior partner at Whynot, the company behind the activation, told Event about the inspiration behind the pop-up bar. "A mojito isn’t really a mojito unless it is made with Havana Club. It was formulated in Havana, Cuba and the idea is to use Havana Club rum, ice cubes and mint," he said.

"We tried to come up with ideas that would express the mojito in a really authentic way. You’ve got a taste of old Havana here, and some of the aesthetic is very traditional to Cuba."

Following its stint at Taste of London The Casa Havana club mojito bar will visit Brixton Market from June 25-28, as well as Camden Lock market on 4-5 and 18-19 July. 

Ketel One Vodka has opted to bring its Kitchen Experience to Taste of London. Visitors can purchase cocktails from the brand’s Bloody Mary Bar, meanwhile expert mixologists will deliver Bloody Mary making classes throughout the festival.

People can take a seat around the ‘kitchen’ and learn about the ingredients used and techniques required to make a Bloody Mary cocktail.

Meantime Brewing Company is offering attendees a virtual reality (VR) experience at its black branded van, which serves up a selection of brewed beverages.

People can place the Oculus technology over their eyes and experience a five-minute tour of the Meantime brewery in London’s Greenwich.

Alec Fleming, marketing manager at Meantime told Event: "They [those who don the VR technology] can expect a fully immersive experience, as if they literally are standing in our brewery."

Mortimer's Orchard is activating with a silent disco, enabling attendees to dance along to their favourite tunes while sipping on a freshly poured cider.

Other brands at Taste of London include:

  • Celebrity Cruises – the company is re-creating its Lawn Club experience, which includes a three-course tasting menu designed by Michelin-starred Cornelius Gallagher, as well as wines and craft beers matched by the brand’s wine ambassador, Oz Clarke. Experiential agency XYZ designed and produced the stand. 
  • Pilsner Urquell – attendees can take part in beer tasting as well as food and beer pairing sessions
  • Green & Black’s – taste specialist Brandt Maybury is whipping up chocolate treats to sample
  • Innocent, Fever Tree and Propercorn are offering samples of their latest products.
