Global in pictures: Barclays Premier League Live descends on Cape Town

Barclays and The Premier League teamed up with agency Wasserman to deliver the Barclays Premier League (BPL) Live event in Cape Town last weekend (19-20 March).

The two-day fan event was held at Camps Bay High School in Cape Town, and comprised a total of nine activation zones.

These included the Live Match Zone, which displayed five of the weekend’s most hotly contested matches via 118sqm screens, accompanied by pre-match analysis and pre and post-match Q&As, as well as the Pitch Zone, where BPL club coaches delivered training sessions.

The Skills Zone saw participants’ accuracy, close control and shooting power compared with players in the BPL, meanwhile fans could take part in interactive games and meet club mascots at the Clubs and Partners Zone.

Other areas offered attendees the chance to view the Barclays Premier League trophy, as well as watch some of the league’s great moments.

The activity, which sought to drive the global popularity of football, is the third event of its kind that Wasserman has produced.

Jackie Fry, events manager, The Premier League, said: "Over the course of the weekend we expect huge numbers of fans to pass through our gates, eager to watch live matches and learn more about the teams they support. We are proud to have built a platform for these international fans to access their favourite teams and players, hopefully creating an unforgettable weekend for all."

Simon Tracey, head of client services at Wasserman, added: "The Barclays Premier League is one of the most famous and premium sports brands in the world. This is the third time we’ve produced BPL Live, and each year the event gets bigger and better as we help to deliver an authentic Barclays Premier League experience and bring fans closer to the sport they love."

Wasserman is also behind a number of events for the NFL, including free fan events around each of the games at Wembley Stadium in 2015.
