The German exhibition industry looks set to have a successful year according to German trade fair association AUMA. The organisation says 145 international trade fairs will be held in the country this year. The events are expected to attract about 177,000 exhibitors – a 3% rise on those at respective previous shows. AUMA attributed the increase to German firms’ commitment to trade fairs and a growing interest in exhibitions from abroad. The association added that the introduction of the euro at the start of the year would make business easier for the 75% of exhibitors that come from countries within the Euro zone. Messe Frankfurt held 32 fairs and exhibitions last year, attracting 33,719 exhibitors and 2.1m visitors. The 13 events organised by the venue itself attracted 23,320 exhibitors. The venue enjoyed a successful end to 2001 with a record 321m euros (£198m) in revenue.
