Game over for HMV-backed GameOn exhibition

Creative Games Media has ditched plans to hold GameOn, a 25,000-strong gaming exhibition at Olympia, partnered with retailer HMV.

The organiser had already put the expo back from June to November 2009. It blamed the recent cancellation of the recession and short timelines for organisation.

"The economic climate of 2009 and short timeline with which the new GameOn London management team took over has proven too challenging to launch a mass-market consumer gaming event of the magnitude and quality that the UK market merits," reads a Creative Games Media's statement

"The team behind GameOn London is committed to the UK video-gaming industry. We hope to be able to provide an event of significant magnitude in the future for the benefit of the entire UK games industry."

All ticket holders will be reimbursed from Seatem ticketing agency.

HMV told Event that the decision to cancel the event was down to the organiser. "When the organisers took the decision not to proceed, this obviously ended our role in the activity also," said a spokesman for the high street retailer.
