Foley wants support from government

Events Industry Alliance group chief executive Trevor Foley reiterated his calls for greater government support when he addressed a breakfast summit during British Tourism Week last month.

Echoing a call he made at the House of Commons recently (Event, March), he said more MPs should attend events and show a united front in bidding for business.

“It’s a global industry with huge potential for growth. We must fight for our share. But we face a problem with this in the UK,” he said. He flagged up the NEC’s failed bid to host the ITU Telecom show in 2009 during which the venue struggled to secure a governmental presence during the bidding process.

Foley made his speech at the Eventia-organised meeting in London on 14 March.
