Five venues to visit for a posh take on pizza

Pizza is no longer the go to takeaway treat. These days, pizza places are hip, their menus filled with fresh, fancy topping options, and their bases are always homemade. Event takes a look at five places to try.

Originally a street food vendor, today Homeslice can be found in London’s Covent Garden, Fitzrovia and Shoreditch. The company specialises in wood fired pizzas, which are available to purchase in a 20" size, and some varieties are available by the slice.

The seasonal menu utilises fresh produce, and currently features 10 pizzas. These includes a salami, rocket and parmesan option, and an aubergine, cauliflower cheese, spinach and harissa variety, as well as the caprese pizza.

Pizza Face

Established as a simple pizza place back in 2009, Pizza Face now spans two locations and an all-encompassing menu, with spelt, gluten and wheat free, as well as vegan options available.

The company’s specials include the Pecker, which features spiced Sardinian sausage and Pecorino cheese, and a red pepper pesto, chorizo, smoked chilli and Manchego cheese creation coined the H.D.

Classics such as the margherita and ham and pineapple similarly comprise the menu. Pizza, salad and gelato specials are also on offer most days.

Franco Manca

Sourdough pizza specialists Franco Manca have made a name for themselves in London, and can be found in locations such as Wimbledon, Stoke Newington, Covent Garden and Broadway Market.

Each pizza is baked in a brick oven made by artisans from Naples – the cuisine's homeland. With the focus firmly on the sourdough base and method of cooking, the company lets the simple flavours do the talking – think tomato, mozzarella and basil pizza as well as a tomato, cured chorizo and mozzarella option.
