Five film-location venues

With London's Sundance Film Festival kicking off next week, Event takes a look at some of the UK's most prolific film locations for hire.

Blenheim Palace

The Oxfordshire palace has a long list of movie credits including the latest Bond film Spectre, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Cinderella. Disney's film adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl children's story The BFG will be released in July featuring the palace's Italian Garden. The entire palace can be hired out exclusively for events, or there's the option to book individual areas such as The Orangery with its huge arched windows, high ceilings, and glass panelled roof with space for up to 250 guests.

Alnwick Castle

Potter fans will recognise the castle from the first two Harry Potter movies, in which it starred as Hogwarts. The 14th-century keep has also appeared in the likes of Becket, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Ivanhoe, and Elizabeth. The Guest Hall can hold up to 300 guests for a reception, while the semi-ruined Hulne Abbey has space for 600 when used along with a marquee. Visitors can even take part in a broomstick training session in the very spot where Harry had his first lesson.

Kedleston Hall

The 18th-century mansion will appear on cinema screens across the globe this summer in the new Tarzan movie which stars Alexander Skarsgard, Samuel L Jackson and Margot Robbie. It was also used as a setting for The Duchess staring Keira Knightley. The hall has a series of state rooms that can be booked for events, including the Saloon, Marble Hall and Library, while the ample grounds can be used for larger gatherings of up to 600 guests.

The Old Royal Naval College

Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe and Jack Black are among the Hollwood actors to have shot scenes at Greenwich's Old Royal Naval College. The 18th century buildings have doubled as London, Berlin and Paris. The Painted Hall, where Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) is dragged from in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, can be hired for up to 398 guests for a dinner, while the Admiral's House can be booked exclusively for up to 90.

Tate Modern

The Southbank gallery has featured in movies including Match Point, Children of Men and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. There are seven contemporary entertaining spaces to choose from ranging from The Turbine Hall, which can host receptions for up to 1,500 guests, to the 120-capacity Members Room with its double-aspect balconies providing views across London and the River Thames.
