Figures show rise in visitors from abroad

More than 32 million international visits were made to the UK last year, generating £15.4bn according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

More than 32 million international visits were made to the UK last year, generating £15.4bn according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

The data suggests a 7% increase in overseas visits compared with 2005 and an 8% rise in visitor spending.

Tom Wright, Visit Britain chief executive, said: “Our marketing activities have already generated an average return on investment over the last three years of £44 in inbound visitor spending for every £1 from the public purse.”
