Expo's North event to rival big shows

Organiser Expo Group has launched corporate hospitality show Event Expo North to rival exhibitor spend at existing shows such as RSVP and the National Venue Show.

The business show for venues and creative event planners will take place from 27-28 September at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate. Expo Group director Ryan Binun is aiming for 5,000 visitors during the two-day event.

He said: "It will be a similar model to RSVP but with a key difference.

We intend to take the show to different northern cities each year. For example next year we hope to stage it at the G-Mex in Manchester and in 2008 we'll take it to the Midlands."

Expo Group marketing director Celine McCreary said: "The show will bring with it all aspects of conference and planning. Our aim is to complement existing exhibitions and to expand the market. We definitely do not want to conflict with shows in the Midlands and the South East. We want to create our own market by innovation not by taking a share of an existing one."

The show will feature hotels, conferencing and event venues within Gallery One. Confirmed exhibitors include Marriott hotels, Sodexho Prestige, Paramount Hotel Group, The Orient Express and Marston Hotels. Gallery One also includes a themed section that features country venues such as Armathwaite Hall Hotel, Belvoir Castle and Country Park Hotels.
