Expomedia builds Euro sites

Expomedia is to open two venues in Moscow and Amsterdam by 2004. The Moscow International Multifunctional Centre (MIMC) will be man- aged by Expomedia and wholly owned by a consortium of Russian businesses and local government. A deal was being finalised as Event went to press. Expomedia’s organising arm, CEE Exhibitions, will launch shows at the Russian venue in September 2003. These will include the Russian Consumer Motor Sport Show and the Moscow Ideal Home Show (Event, May). The venue will open its doors to outside organisers from January 2004. MIMC will open with 10,000sqm of exhibition and conference space, rising by 10,000sqm after six months. “Establishing the venue means we can give organisers more access to space to develop their themes. The lack of space in the Russian market has created pent-up demand,” said Expomedia chairman Roger Shashoua. Expocentre Amsterdam is due to open in September 2004. The purpose-built “smart” venue will be in the south-east of the city and initially offer 5,000sqm of space, rising to 10,000sqm after six months. Expomedia hopes the centre will “fill a niche bet-ween the large established halls and the hotel facility”. Shashoua added: “Amsterdam is the gateway to Europe, and a stable business climate combined with some excellent infrastructure makes it the choice for exhibitors showcasing their products to the world.” Expomedia is also developing centres in Frankfurt, Budapest, Belgrade and Zagreb (Event, April).
