The event, to be held from 25-28 May, is expected to attract around 12,000 delegates. The venue worked with the British Society for Rheumatology, the EULAR steering committee, agency MCI and Visit London during the bidding process.
Vanessa Cotton, managing director conferences and events at Excel, said: "We are the capital's only venue to offer such scale and flexibility and we will ensure that EULAR fully realises its event success in London."
The Labour Party spring conference enticed more than 2,000 delegates, bringing an estimated £3m worth of commerce to Birmingham
when it arrived in the city at the end of February. The three-day conference ran from 29 February to 2 March at The International Convention Centre.
The NEC Group won the bid last October to host the event. It worked with partners across the city, including Marketing Birmingham, Birmingham City Council and British Waterways.
