The Convention Centre, Dublin (CCD) has secured the contract to host the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS) three-day conference in September 2010, which is expected to attract 750 delegates.

The NEC Group-managed venue is scheduled to open the same month. EUGMS represents 25 countries across Europe, aiming to promote research, education and professional developments while representing the speciality to EU and national governments.

CCD director of international sales Catherine Newhall-Caiger said: "This conference will provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate our stunning iconic conference centre and showcase exactly what the CCD and the city of Dublin can offer delegates."

ACC Liverpool's BT Convention Centre is to host next year's Trades Union Congress gathering from 14-17 September. It will attract around 750 delegates and is estimated to have an economic impact of £2m. Other organisations planning to host events at the ACC include the Royal College of Nursing and the British Society of Rheumatologists.
