Johnson leaves Beatwax after seven years and will begin his new job on 15 February.
At M&C Saatchi he will hire a team and deliver large-scale events, tactical stunts and experiential content to complement the agency’s PR offering.
The move brings M&C Saatchi PR's events in-house for the first time, reflecting client demand for more face-to-face activity. Molly Aldridge, global chief executive, said: "Clients are asking us more and more frequently to combine both physical, direct to consumer activity with great story telling – both locally and globally. By bringing Tom on board, our agency can provide an integrated solution in-house in a strategic, seamless, cost effective way."
Johnson told Event: "I’m thrilled to be joining the team and I’m looking forward to the future, the growth and the creative campaigns we will produce together. In a busy world of PR, experiential and events, I believe M&C Saatchi PR offers clients an intelligent, brutally honest and highly skilful service."
Under Johnson’s watch, Beatwax has produced events including a pop-up lounge for X-Men: First Class and an ape playground for the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes on Blu-Ray.
