It is hoped the Games for Scotland programme will inspire a range of events and activities that generate excitement around the countdown to one of the biggest sporting events ever hosted on Scottish soil.

The programme has been arranged to coincide with the handover of the Commonwealth Games flag in Delhi on the 14 October.

"The Delhi Handover Ceremony in October will mark a special moment on the journey towards the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. As part of our legacy plans we have made clear that we want all of Scotland to capitalise on this opportunity to host the biggest multi-sport event in our history," said minister for Public Health and Sport Shona Robison.

Applications for events will be led by EventScotland through local authorities and will be available to issue from today. For more information on the programme and how to apply click here.
