I got into the events industry because I love organising parties. It’s a great feeling to see your client still smiling at the end of the event.

I have worked here since I started Top Hat Catering in 2002, beforehand I worked as a chef for By Word of Mouth, Rhubarb and Allison Price.

I was attracted to this position as I wanted to be able to be able to have an overall vision when creating events – I enjoy the involvement of food, styling, venue finding and liaising with clients.

Not many people know that I learnt how to cook after university, prior to that it was fish fingers and spaghetti hoops on toast.

My worst experience at an event was when the electrics went out at a sit down dinner for 100 – it was stressful but using our initiative along with the help of a fantastic restaurant round the corner we somehow made it all work.

If there's one thing I've learnt it's that for every problem there is a solution and to only have one note book.

The best events I've been involved in are, weddings – the excitement and joy of the day is just fantastic – they always remind me of my own wedding.

If I could do it all over again I would have believed in myself and started Top Hat earlier instead of a 2 year stint as a PA in the city.

The one thing I can't stand is people saying they can do something and then fail to deliver.

Outside of work I spend my time with food photography, sports, clothes making and travelling.

If money were no object I would have more long foodie weekends abroad - delicious.

The one event I will never miss is the Grand National – every year a good friend organises a wonderful party – it is always such fun.

The recession has meant that we have picked up work where the overpriced larger catering companies have failed to respond to their clients cost cuttings.

The next 12 months will be about taking Top Hat to the next level – being affiliated to more venues and creating long lasting relationships.

If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be my event manager – all the challenges and enjoyment without the financial worries. Other than that I absolutely love what I do.

If I ruled the event industry I would be pretty exhausted
