The stunt, which took place in the Lake District, formed part of the brand’s ‘£Million Mega Draw’ campaign, which launched in June and ran throughout the summer until 30 September. The campaign’s aim was to give someone the chance to become a millionaire and live out their wildest dreams, whilst also making 13 customers £10,000 richer.

The prank involved 53-year-old Steve Belcher and his wife Julie from Barrow-in-Furness, who were visited by Confused.com’s Brian the robot. Belcher had been told that he’d won £10,000, picked at random after buying his car insurance online. However, the married couple were distraught when two actors impersonating Confused.com staff revealed that they wouldn’t be taking the £10,000 home with them.

It was finally revealed to the couple that they would be receiving £1m instead. The stunt was captured on hidden cameras.

Martin Coriat, chief executive of Confused.com, said: "It’s such a thrill to change someone’s life by giving them £1m. We’re so happy for Steve and his family, and hope they enjoy the money.

"We have had a lot of support and loyalty from our customers over the years since we launched Confused.com, and wanted to show our appreciation through this giveaway. It’s been a pleasure to make 13 of our customers £10,000 richer, and making someone a millionaire really was a fantastic way to end the giveaway."
