Event Awards 2005: Best Live Event Activity Business, Finance & Government

Following a proposal by the Department of Health to create a national staff event for sharing best practice, Jack Morton Worldwide worked alongside the department to create NHS Live. A year-long programme was put in place to accelerate change across the NHS.

NHS Live was developed from a major public consultation designed to help staff think about how they can improve service. The communications event, which needed to engage staff, patients and stakeholders was the focal point of the programme.

Another key objective was for staff to interact with leading health care experts, policy makers and Ministers. The event's two key themes were to encourage learning and to recognise achievement through the Health & Social Care Awards.

The event included an exhibition with contributions from the NHS Live sponsor partners, industry and stakeholder organisations. There was also a series of master-classes under the guidance of Professor Sir Liam Donaldson, chief medical officer.

The plenary session featured a number of high-level speakers, including political endorsement from the Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

Throughout the day, there was opportunity for teams and delegates to network.

The evening was rounded off with the prestigious awards ceremony, attended by 2,000 staff and patients. The audience used interactive keyboards to choose the winners.

An electronic survey revealed positive feedback. 85% of participating NHS organisations stated they are on track to achieve the planned outcomes of projects. 93% were confident that NHS Live projects will deliver value for patients, users, public and staff.

81% of sponsor partners understand the NHS better as a result of their involvement.
