Eurostar takes Covent Garden into a new era

Eurostar became the first company to stage an event within Covent Garden Market last month with a party for 700 guests to mark the reinvention of the train operator's first-class service.

Moving Venue Management teamed up with the site's appointed agency, The Ultimate Experience, to create an event that was attended by the travel trade, frequent travellers, press and Eurostar sales staff.

Eurostar director of communications Paul Charles said: "From September our onboard service will become more flexible for passengers, with first class being split into business and leisure carriages. The product is becoming more tailored so we needed a party that would reflect not only different requirements of passengers but also a venue that fits our message of taking travellers to the very heart of three key European city centres."

The Ultimate Experience senior project manager Simon Woodward headed up production of the event, which saw guests arrive for a 45-minute reception in the market's central avenue and pass through to the south hall where they could enjoy a disco area or fairground rides. Four food stations managed by Moving Venue Caterers served up desserts and menus inspired by Brussels, Paris and London.

Moving Venue Management senior event manager Steve Nutbeam said: "The space was logistically very challenging and we needed to co-ordinate the unloading of equipment as well as bringing guests in by coach from Brussels and Paris. We liaised carefully with the traders and allowed some to stay open while guests had their reception. Rigorous planning was vital as it's a public space and we couldn't afford any surprises."
