The Euro Fair Statistics, headed up by the Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics, presents data from 20 countries.
The results include 524,782 exhibitors and 51.3 million visitors across 21,900,000 sqm of rented space.
The society's managing director, Harald Kotter, said: "The figures are interesting for companies looking for individual events. The results do not serve as overall statistics for a country. Not every exhibition is audited. It therefore serves as planning data for companies looking for exhibitions in, for example, France, Germany or Spain."
The UK is not included in the data. It is thought that the Event Industry Alliance's formal auditing requirements would make the information not necessarily comparable.
The project, which started in 1998 with just six companies, now involves 12 auditing bodies in 20 countries.
The latest statistics are thought to represent a third of the European trade fair market.
The information can be downloaded from any of the 12 websites belonging to the auditing bodies, including AFE in Spain, BDO in Portugal, CENTREX in Hungry, DO in Denmark, FKM in Austria and Germany, FUTFO in Finland, OJS in France, RUEF in Russia and SFC in Sweden.
