A joint venture between Event, International Confex and entertainment agency Sternberg Clarke, The Next Big Thing is an X Factor-style competition set up to find the best new talent for the event industry.

The past three winners have all gone onto successful careers in the industry, while at least two of the finalists have reached the latter stages of Simon Cowell's Britains Got Talent.

Each year the contestants have to battle through a number of heats to make it to the final at International Confex with the winner bagging a £1,000 cash prize and a years contract with Sternberg Clarke.

Acts can now enter the competition via the International Confex website by providing a video and their details, which will be hosted on a dedicated YouTube channel.

This year's semi finals will be held at Confex on 6-7 March 2012, while the final will be taking place on 8 March.

Before this a number of heats will be taking place with high-profile industry experts acting as judges and Event's editor Jeremy King compering.

Sternberg Clarke managing director said: "’The Next Big Thing provides an outstanding showcase opportunity for new or unsigned acts to demonstrate their worth in front of a major events audience, from corporate organisers to event entertainment businesses."
