The platform will pair up exhibitors and suppliers making similar journeys so they can arrange to share transport when vehicles are empty, with the aim of reducing costs and carbon emissions.
Carbon Voyage will arrange shared taxis, shared freight transportation or shuttle trips by finding empty vehicles which are already travelling to or from EC&O venues.
The initiative is part of the group’s sustainability programme – it estimates that booking travel through Carbon Voyage will halve the carbon impact of a trip as well as saving up to 30% on journey costs.
Emma Wellman, sustainability advisor at EC&O Venues, said transport was a key factor in the venue group’s carbon output. "This ground-breaking system allows us to offer our clients an easy and effective solution to lowering their carbon footprint but also reduce costs."
She added: "Fuel costs are at least one third of a freight company’s average monthly expenses and both freight and taxi journeys are empty on average 30% of the time. These statistics show that there is huge scope for our industry to make significant changes that will benefit not just the environment but also contribute to their bottom-line."To leave a comment register and let us know your thoughts.
