Earls Court owner Capco is pushing ahead with plans to turn the complex and surrounding area into a huge residential and commercial site, but the day that a spade hits the ground is as yet undecided.
In fact, those involved in the development and Earls Court told Event they are currently working on a sliding scale and events could be held at the site late into next year, depending on the progression of the plans.
"There are a huge number of stakeholders in this project [who could affect timescales]," said Capco spokesman Chris Rumfitt. "But we are confident progessing in a timely manner."
Earls Court operator EC&O venues is planning to retain around 70% of business through improvement of its Olympia site. Though there are no redundancies planned yet for the 150 full-time staff at Earls Court and Olympia that is under ongoing review.
According to Capco’s construction plans, if no delays occur work could start as early as late 2012, with construction completed somewhere between 2014 – 2018.
Capco today unveiled the official Terry Farrell-designed masterplan for the site at Earls Court as part of a public consultation into the redevelopment. The myearlscourt.com website contains full details on the project.
