Dutch firm VNU snaps up Imark in £11m deal

Imark Communications Europe has been sold to Dutch publisher VNU

Business Media Europe, in a deal worth £11.7m.

Imark is the fourth largest exhibition organiser in the IT sector. The

acquisition includes shows such as Softworld, Projectworld and Comms

Dealer Expo. It also includes Imark's event management division First

Contact, which is responsible for organising this month's industry forum

for the Association of Exhibition Organisers.

"The acquisition couldn't be a better match," Imark managing director

David Pegler said. "Both parties have market-leading media opportunities

and the new relationships will help us achieve greater scale and more

powerful offerings - all of which means we'll be better placed to serve

exhibitors and visitors better."

Imark Europe will continue to be based in Sunbury. VNU has no plans to

rebrand the company.

"Imark's UK events have had a long-standing relationship with several of

VNU's business-to-business publications," VNU chief executive and

chairman, Ruud Bakker said. "We consider this to be an important

strategic acquisition in our portfolio."

The European branch of Imark, which was founded in 1998, employs 40

people. Last year it generated revenues of about £8m.
