Dubai plans to develop Trade Centre facility

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) site is poised to undergo a Dh16bn (£2.5bn) redevelopment that will include the addition of further exhibition facilities, hotels and office space. The planned changes are expected to take from seven to ten years to complete and will involve the preservation of the landmark DWTC tower. However, the country’s largest convention centre, Shaikh Rashid Hall, is likely to be replaced. The outlines follow recent announcements that Dubai International Airport is to be expanded at a cost of Dh15bn (£2.3bn) and a Dubai Exhibition City built as part of the Jebel Ali Airport City. The expansion programme comes after growing concerns that some of the largest exhibitions being organised in the region have outgrown the facilities that are currently available.
