Diary: What's in a name ...

Never has an awards ceremony resulted in so many quips and jibes as the Awards Awards for the awards industry. Diary, however, would never stoop that low and instead would like to congratulate the Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) and London venue Excel after picking up an award for Institute/ Association Award Scheme of the Year. The award was for their joint effort in staging the AEO Awards 2003.

The Awards Awards took place at the Dorchester Hotel and was organised by Awards World magazine. After the ceremony was compared to a farcical episode of Absolutely Fabulous by US broadcaster CNN, editor Barbara Buchanan expressed her surprise at the coverage: "People seem to think it is some kind of joke, we've given professional satirists a field day." So that's another reason for Diary not to make cheap gags at the event's expense.
