Diary: Thang you very much ...

In 1996, a producer called Stig Edgren came up with the concept of 'Elvis The Concert' in time for the 20th anniversary of the King's death. Intended as a celebration of his penchant for live performance, it was meant to consist of a single tour nine years ago and yet it is still going, with Elvis appearing on a giant video screen, flanked by members of his original TCB band and two backing vocal groups - the Sweet Inspirations and the Stamps. Forgive Diary's cynicism but Elvis left the building a long time ago and it's bad enough that his records have turned the music charts into the strings with which marketers have turned into puppeteers. The band, the backing singers and even the production boys at Bandit Lites must be laughing all the way to the bank of Graceland.

Let Elvis rest in peace and put away those spangling flares.
