DIARY: Manchester starts plan to be picture perfect

Pay attention, I shall say this only once. Cold war spy technology

has been brought in to help Marketing Manchester's strategy to promote

the city.

A Lomo camera once employed by the KGB is to be used to capture the

sights of Manchester, with the best shots blown-up on giant 48-sheet

advertising hoardings throughout the city. A team of photographers

travelled the city to get the images. The Lomo, or as it's better known

the Leningradskoe Optiko Mechanitscheskoe Objedinienie (try saying that

after a few vodka martinis), can produce 'stunning and surreal'

photographs because of its wide-angled lens.

If the cameras produce any stunning photographs of Manchester, that

would definitely be surreal.
