Security is a bear necessity, especially if you're 96 years old and worth pounds 82,000. Which was why the world's oldest teddy bear was escorted into a teddy bear exhibition at the City Chambers in Edinburgh, chaperoned by two Securicor guards.
The bear, which dates from 1904, had arrived from Germany.
Earlier in the year, another surviving bear of the same make fetched just under pounds 82,000 at auction.
The bear's unofficial name is Teddy, after former US president Teddy Roosevelt. Indeed, it might have been an idea to allow the stuffed toy to run for president. It's got more personality and charm than either Bush or Gore.
