The agency will be delivering a number of pop-up testing stations in Wakefield, west Yorkshire, to offer free blood pressure checks to people aged 40 and over. The activity forms part of the health organisation’s Blood Pressure Drop-In campaign, which launched on 9 March.

Over the next two weeks, the roadshow will visit supermarkets, rugby grounds and community centres, including the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats rugby game on Sunday 23 March. Branded inflatable pods will act as mobile testing points offering visitors consultation and waiting areas, and brand ambassadors will be  on hand to get people talking about blood pressure and how it can be affected by lifestyle.

Local health professionals will be offering free appointments to participants and will take blood pressure readings. Those patients who show a high reading will get a referral letter to take to their GP.

Sharon Richey, chief executive of Because, said: "We’ve been working extensively with Public Health England on these kind of face-to-face awareness campaigns over the last few years, with great success. Many people avoid going to the doctor unless they’re really ill.

"These pop-up experiences are designed to make it easier for them to have quick chats and check ups with trained professionals, in convenient, everyday locations."
