Bournemouth International Centre and Pavilion has calculated that visitors to its conferences and exhibitions have boosted revenue in the resort by pounds 75m.

The figures for the year to March 2000 showed more than 250,000 people visited the BIC/Pavilion in the period. They included 20,000 at the 1999 Labour Party conference and nearly 12,000 at last year's Easter People show.

'We're going from strength to strength and we have a very good team at the BIC bringing in new business all the time,' said BIC/Pavilion management committee chairman Pamela Harris.

This year BIC became the first venue to host two party conferences in the same year welcoming the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative Party.
