Empire mag show canned for 2012

Bauer Media has confirmed its Empire magazine live spin-off Empire Presents Big Screen will not go ahead from 14-16 September as planned.

The publisher said it has ended its contract with the show's organiser Clarion Events following the latter’s need to "refashion" the show’s financial structure.

A Clarion spokesperson said the decision to call off the event was made back in February.

The inaugural show took place from 12-14 August last year attracting 30,000 visitors to The O2.

The event saw preview screenings of summer blockbuster movies, personal appearances by filmmakers and cast members, and an exhibition of memorabilia (covered in Event's September 2011 issue).

A statement issued on behalf of Bauer Media said: "I can confirm that Bauer Media will not be renewing its partnership with Clarion Events to produce Empire presents Big Screen 2012.

"Whilst the 2011 event was a considerable success, Clarion’s need to refashion the financial structure of the 2012 proposition has resulted in our decision not to take part.

"Empire magazine remains committed to creating an exciting live movie property in the UK market in the future. In the meantime, we continue to focus our efforts on strengthening our print proposition and developing the extension of our increasingly successful iPad edition."
