It was announced in July that the ceremony will move to The 02 for it’s next outing on 15 February, leaving its historical home at Earls Court.

Along with a new venue, 2011's event will feature a new trophy – restyled by the original rock n’ roll fashion designer Vivienne Westwood (see left) – and a new ‘climax’ award.

Organisers have ditched the Outstanding Contribution Award in favour of the newly named MasterCard British Album Of The Year award.

In another change, for the first time ever all 2010 winners and nominees will be invited to join the Voting Academy, made up of invited members from across the industry.

"Current British music has never been better and 2011 will highlight this and focus on the incredibly high standard set by our artists in the last year. We are very excited about this development," said a statement on the Brits website.

The nominations for the Brit Awards 2011 will be announced on 13 January at IndigO2, with the launch event taking place the following evening on 14 January.
