I am an aspiring event professional currently learning the ropes in the world of experiential marketing at TRO. Originally from Cornwall, I moved up north two years ago to study at Sheffield Hallam University. My love of events, stemming from spending my spare time trawling around muddy festivals or immersing myself in an art exhibition in big open galleries, led me towards studying my degree in Events Management. After all, why wouldn’t I want to have a career that makes people have a great time?

Many months of hard work searching for internships, writing covering letters and going through interviews had me stressed at times, but mostly I found myself becoming more inspired every time I applied to positions I could see myself in. That process in itself was a huge learning curve - from being able to perfect my CV and covering letter, to gaining crucial interview practice. Each left me feeling more prepared and confident for the next application and interview, and most of all, increasingly determined.

Eventually I received a magazine article from one of my university lecturers with the advertisement for the placement position at experiential marketing agency TRO. Having recently attended an inspiring guest lecture from a successful industry professional from the experiential marketing world, I immediately applied by filming my 60-second video explaining why I was the candidate TRO were looking for (I definitely lost track of how many video takes I filmed to get the perfect clip!)

I was so excited to be offered an interview and when I arrived at the office, interviewed with the talent team and line manager, and met others in the building - I wanted the placement more than any other. I was over the moon when I got a phone call the next day offering me the position, and a week later I had moved to London and began settling into life at TRO.

After the offer

My remit as events team administrator ranges from supporting my manager with the general administration of the London office, to assisting the various client services teams on their projects. My main focuses so far include Lucozade Sport, whereby I have been assisting on the scheduling and staffing of an ongoing sampling campaign, and the large upcoming event in Venice, where I have been assisting in the crew scheduling and various other research tasks.

I find research to be a large part of my role, which I thoroughly enjoy and feel very able to do following all the research required in my first two years of university. Furthermore I am part of the planning team of internal events such as the recent summer party for our London office, which found ‘advenTROers’ exploring central London… Already in my time at TRO I have gained so much valuable experience, which I know will be crucial in my future career, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
