Behind the scenes: Sky Atlantic's Westworld stunt

Waterloo station, the Millennium Bridge and Westminster in London were visited by an army of 20 "humanoids" to mark the launch of Westworld, the new show on Sky Atlantic.


The activity, which took place on Sunday (2 October) was implemented together with agency Taylor Herring, and involved twenty models who were turned into ‘humanoid’ robots. Body artist Emma Fay led a team of ten to create the unique look, taking a total of six hours for each model.

Westworld, which premieres tonight (4 October) on Sky Atlantic and Now TV, focuses on a futuristic theme park populated by robotic ‘hosts’ that allow visitors to live out their fantasies. Sky Atlantic also commissioned research to launch its new flagship drama, which found that one in seven of those surveyed (14%) think they will encounter human-like robots on a day-to-day basis within 10 years. Other findings included that as many as two fifths of those surveyed (41%) believe that humanoids could destroy humanity. 

Zai Bennett, director of Sky Atlantic, said: "Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are fast becoming part of everyday life, but our research demonstrates just how much we don’t know about this technology or where it could be heading. Sky Atlantic’s Westworld explores what life might be like if this became a reality. It looks at the future of AI – and the choices we make when we’re given free rein to live our lives without any consequences."

Sky Atlantic landed an orchestra within London's Waterloo and Liverpool Street stations in April to mark Game of Thrones' return to the channel.
