The British Exhibition Contractors Association (BECA) is planning two key health and safety training events this year as well as a series of regional courses. The two three-day events will take place from 23-25 July and 3-5 December at the Raven Hotel in Worcestershire. The courses are designed to improve under-standing of the health and safety laws in the exhibition industry and have been accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). BECA director Lynn Felton said “Our members are working with health and safety all the time, but they don’t realise it. These courses will make sure that people are aware of what they are doing and that we’re all working to the same format.” Delegates will undertake project work and sit a two-hour multiple choice test. The courses are available to member and non-member companies as well as health and safety personnel from all industry sectors. Regional courses are planned for London, Man-chester and Birmingham. They include a one-day health and safety course and a half-day workshop on preparing risk assessments and method statements. Felton said: “We are look- ing to run two courses in each location, but it’s prov-ing difficult to get the right venue at the right time. We are on target to hold at least one event in each of the three locations this year.” The association aims to hold the first regional event in London next month. • The Business Design Centre in north London has received a British Safety Council Award.
