Back-up hall for Wembley Arena facelift

Wembley Arena is to be replaced by a temporary structure next year while the north London venue is redeveloped (Event, July/August).

The complex will be shut from January to August 2005 and Wembley is awaiting planning permission for a 10,000-seat temporary concert hall before awarding the contract to a temporary structure supplier.

Wembley senior commercial and marketing manager Julie Warren said bookings were still to be confirmed for the closed period but maintained its plans had been "very well-received" by the music industry.

The structure will be fully insulated with a permanent stage and rig, front of house and backstage areas and VIP catering opportunities.

Warren added: "There are two or three clear contenders for the contract to build this type of structure."
