The nighttime event, coined Rally on the River, saw the finance company transform Pier 97 on the Hudson River into a tennis court complete with a grandstand for guests.
Sharapova and fellow tennis stars including Monica Puig and John Isner took to the court to play tennis alongside guests, who were plucked at random from the audience with the help of a spotlight.
Players were each handed what the brand has described as an "interactive and responsive" tennis racket, which was used to hit the tennis ball onto a light projected wall of water.
Electronic act Chromeo were brought in to set the scene, providing music throughout the evening to accompany the event's happenings.
The experience, which was open to American Express card members only, also included holographic images of the sport's past, present and future stars.
Agency Momentum Worldwide, the brand's experiential agency in the US and UK, delivered all aspects of the event, including the concept, creative and talent.
