The Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) is to hold its industry forum annually. The decision follows positive responses to the first conference in September. A working party will meet on 22 November to discuss what form the event will take in terms of content, duration and venue. AEO director-general Trevor Foley said: “We will be looking at the feedback and seeing what people felt worked and what didn’t. We will be looking at wider possibilities for the forum. We have already had pitches from three or four venues to host it.” This year’s two-day forum was the first of its kind. It was held at Celtic Manor in Newport and was attended by 270 delegates. Speakers included Reed Exhibition Companies chairman Mike Rusbridge, Montgomery Exhibitions chairman Sandy Angus and Earls Court and Olympia Group chief executive Andrew Morris. “The response was amazing and overwhelming. People have saved tens of thousands of pounds through what they learned over the two days,” said Foley. “Delegates have gone back to their businesses with new ideas.” Next year’s forum will have seminars focusing on management. The event organiser has not been confirmed but will be decided by the working party. Imark organised the September forum. “Delegates wanted the forum to run again because so many were inspired by this year’s conference and wanted to learn more,” Foley concluded.
