The stripped down performance will mark the start of Absolute Radio’s summer of live music programming, Absolute Radio Live, which will see it take in most of the key festivals.
The station is famed for hosting live music in usual venues having put Biffy Clyro in The Houses of Parliament, Newton Faulkner in a hot air balloon, and Texas in Tower Bridge.
Absolute Radio chief operating officer Clive Dickens said: "We’re passionate about live music and are using Absolute Radio’s digital expertise to bring our listeners even closer to the performances in 2011. Elbow are a hugely popular band amongst our audiences and we are incredibly proud they are kicking off Absolute Radio Live - to do it in such a memorable setting as St Paul’s Cathedral will make it all the more special."
The gig takes place on 26 May and will be broadcast on Absolute Radio on 5 June from 7-8pm. It will also be available to view via the station’s website.
Absolute Radio Live will be sponsored by Swiftcover.com for the second year running.
