Brit Awards to move to O2 from Earls Court

The revamped Brit Awards is moving to the O2 in 2011, leaving its historical home at Earls Court in West London.

Strong rumours linking Jonathan Ross to hosting the show have also emerged after former Boy George backing singer Helen Terry, the show’s producer, left.

Ross recently announced he was joining ITV, which broadcasts the Brit Awards, after his much-publicised split from the BBC.

The Brits’ continuing presence at Earls Court had been in question anyway, with the venue expected to disappear soon after it hosts events at the 2012 Olympics.

A spokesperson for the British Phonographic Industry was not immediately available to comment. Earls Court confirmed the move to Event magazine:

"EC&O Venues can confirm that The Brits will not be staged at Earls Court in 2011, following the organiser’s decision to change the format to an arena event. We are sad to see The Brits move to a new venue after 13 very successful years at Earls Court, but we’d like to wish the organisers the very best of luck going forward."

In happier news, Earls Court was this week shortlisted for an Event Award.
