Move of the week: Maria Svedlind joins The Mermaid

Svedlind joins after working at Novus Leisure for seven years. During her time at Novus she set up training for all the bookings staff to deal with advanced sales throughout the UK, latterly becoming assistant general manager of Bar Soho.

Before this she worked as an economist with Stockholm's local council in her native Sweden.

Svedlind said: "The Mermaid has great potential, so much flexibility and I feel it can cater for most enquires. I am looking forward to raising the profile of the venue, bringing in new business and driving the sales forward."

The Mermaid sits near the Thames and has views of the river from its two river rooms. It also has a tiered auditorium seating up to 600.
