Hundreds of dancers recruited for Cultural Olympiad project

Around 900 dancers have been lined up to take part in one of the North West's largest Cultural Olympiad performances this summer.

The Moment When…, produced by Cheshire Dance and Walk the Plank, will see members of the local community perform alongside professional dance artists and aerialists at three events across the region.

Routines exploring the moment an athlete first decides to become an Olympian will be interspersed with pyrotechnic displays.

The first event takes place at Chester Racecourse on Tuesday 29 May, followed by Orford Jubilee Park in Warrington in June and Tatton Park in Knutsford in July. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend.

John Wassell, Walk the Plank co-founder, said: "Combining Cheshire Dance’s knowledge of participatory dance and extensive community links with Walk the Plank’s creative production expertise and experience in delivering spectacle at varying scales will ensure that The Moment When… is an original and spectacular addition to a very busy year for the cultural sector."

The project is supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council, Warrington Council, Marketing Cheshire and Arts Council England.

Event revealed last month that Manchester-based design agency Eskimo Creative had won the contract to design the set.
