Ten young, unemployed people have reached the final of a Virgin Media competition to manage a one-off festival in London's Royal Opera House for Richard Branson.

The competition, known as The Project, launched at the start of summer by Virgin Media Pioneers – an online community for aspiring entrepreneurs.

From thousands of entries, one hundred hopefuls were shortlisted to complete paid work placements with organisations including talent management agencies, event companies and media organisations.

A judging panel including Richard Branson selected the final ten, who will now embark on their biggest challenge yet - planning and staging a festival in London’s Royal Opera House in six weeks time.

The final 10 are:

Kelly Ashby
Carlene Campbell
Kate Jones
Liam McFarlane
Joshua Morris
Oliver Noble-Campbell
Cyril Ofori
Sara Scobie
John Toner
Darnell White-Taylor

The Project team will be responsible for every decision leading to the final event on 7 September, from artistic direction to raising awareness of the day.

The team will be supported by celebrity mentors and ambassadors and have the opportunity to learn from event management professionals running this year’s V Festival.

Richard Branson said: "Now that the final ten have been selected, the challenge will really begin. They will have to come together as a team and make important decisions to create a fantastic event in September."

Neil Berkett, chief executive officer of Virgin Media, said: "We’d like to congratulate all the individuals that make up this amazing team. They really wowed us with their enthusiasm, commitment, talent and dedication. They will be learning from the best and we know that this experience will provide them with the best start for a fantastic future career."
