£135m former Metropole venue set for 2010 launch

Work looks set to start in the next week on a £135m luxury revamp of the former Metropole hotel, near Trafalgar Square, bringing the Corinthia brand to London for the first time.

The property is due to reopen in 2010 and will feature meetings and event spaces including a large restored ballroom.

The hotel will be five-star with 283 rooms.

The property has been purchased by a joint venture between Malta's International Hotel Investments, the Libyan Foreign Investment Company (LFICO) and Istithmar Hotels FZE of Dubai, and will be managed by CHI Hotels & Resorts (CHI).
